Valentines Hot Cocoa Bombs

These heart shaped Valentine hot chocolate bombs are the perfect sweet treats for this sweet holiday!

Just a few months ago, I discovered the world of hot chocolate bombs. They’re all the rage these days!

The first ones I made were Mocha Hot Chocolate Bombs with homemade fireside coffee mix.

Inspired by some heart shaped silicone molds I discovered at a local store, I thought it would be fun to try a Valentine’s Day hot chocolate bomb version.

Ingredients and supplies you’ll need:

ingredients for valentines hot cocoa bombs
  • silicone mold – *I couldn’t find the exact mold I used, but this is the most similar heart shaped mold. The cavity of mine is 1.2 inches deep. Here’s another option from Walmart.
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 2 tsp. butter, divided
  • hot chocolate mix
  • mini marshmallows
  • pink and red smarties or M&Ms
  • 2 squares baker’s white chocolate
  • sprinkles

1. Melt 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon butter in microwave – at 25 second intervals – stirring well in between – until chocolate is completely melted and smooth.

2. Using a spoon, coat the bottoms and sides of the silicone molds well. (This recipe makes 4 heart shaped hot chocolate bombs.)

Make sure you keep an eye on the sides so there are no spaces peeking through at all. You should have an even layer of chocolate covering the bottoms and sides of the heart-shaped molds.

3. Chill the chocolate in the freezer for at least 15 minutes or until solidified.

4. Fill the hardened chocolate molds with hot chocolate mix (about 3 Tablespoons per heart shaped mold), mini marshmallows, and smarties.

You’ll want your “filling” to come almost to the top of each mold cup.

5. Melt another 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate and butter following the instructions above.

After it is completely melted and smooth, top off each heart shaped mold with chocolate to form a “bottom” of chocolate.

6. Chill in freezer until solid – about 15 minutes.

7. Peel the hardened hot chocolate bombs out of the molds and decorate with melted white chocolate and sprinkles.

I melted the white chocolate squares right in a small zip-loc bag. Once it was melted, I cut a tiny corner out of the bag and piped directly over the hot chocolate bombs.

If you want to use sprinkles, put them on quickly after piping the white chocolate – as the chocolate hardens quick!
