Different options for finishing DIY planter stands
Once you have built a planter stand with wood, you’ll have to decide what type of finish to put on it. There are lots of options. Here are a few of the most popular:
Stain the wood
Many of the wood planter stands are finished with wood stain. To finish a planter stand with wood stain, simply wipe the stain color of your choice onto the wood using a lint free rag or foam brush, and wipe off with a rag.
Staining the wood allows the wood grain to show through an gives it a beautiful finish.
Paint the wood
Painting planter stands gives the option of matching a planter to the decor in a room. Prime the raw wood first, or use a paint and primer in one. To acheive a mid-century modern look or boho feel, a popular option is to paint plant stands black.
Colorblock the legs
Colorblocking is a fun new trendy painting technique. To achieve the color blocked legs look, tape off a portion of the legs (usually the bottom 1/3 or 1/4 of the leg), stain one portion and paint the other portion. I’ve seen this done with white, black, and gold – but I’m sure you could do whatever color you choose!
Have fun decorating with those new plant babies!
