Ingredients needed for this swiss chicken casserole recipe
  • 3 chicken breasts, split in half (to make them thinner)
  • pepper
  • 6 slices swiss cheese- I like the real slices of swiss cheese rather than processed slices.
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 3/4 cup milk (I used 2%)
  • 2 cups stuffing mix (like Stove Top Stuffing)

Step by Step Instructions for Chicken Swiss Casserole with Stuffing Topping

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and get out baking dish or dishes. Choose your own adventure with casserole dish size based on how many people you are feeding. Because this recipe is for 4 servings, I divided it into two small baking dishes (these pyrex 6 cup containers with lids) so I could have 2 meals for two. However, you could make the whole recipe at once in a larger baking dish if you want to make the meal for 4 people.
  2. Make the stuffing mix according to the directions on the box. Set aside. Also, stir together the cream of chicken soup and milk in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the baking dish (or dishes) and sprinkle with pepper. Lay a slice of cheese on each one. Top with the soup mixture and then the cooked stove top stuffing.
  4. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until it is bubbly around the edges and the chicken is cooked through.

  • If you’re cooking for two (like I am), you will LOVE these 6 cup covered casserole dishes from Pyrex! They are just the perfect size for 2 (and what I photographed this casserole in for this post).
  • If you want to freeze this casserole ahead, just assemble the casserole up to the point before baking and put the lid on the casserole dish – or cover it with plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. When ready to use it, thaw it in the fridge overnight and then bake it uncovered for 50 minutes.
