DIY Book Page Star Ornaments
How to make simple paper ornaments using old book pages and a simple folding technique.
When I was visiting my family last summer, my sister-in-law showed me how to make the neatest star ornaments with old book pages. I’ve been planning on making them for my tree ever since. I finally got around to it the other day.
How to Make Paper Book Page Star Ornaments
Paper ornaments supply list:

- 9 – 3 x 3 inch squares of old book pages. (I used a falling-apart old hymnal.)
- String for hanging
- Good glue ~ something stronger than a glue stick will be needed
- Shiny bobbles for centers (or buttons might look neat, too!)
- Double sided tape to stick on the shiny centers
Step One: Fold the 8 pieces that will be your star points. I did a little video to show you how:
Step Two: Once you’ve folded all 8 star pieces, glue them onto the 1 piece of 3 x 3 inch paper you have left, “nestling” them up against each other.
Don’t forget to glue down your hanger string first (like I did!)…

Step 3: Once they are all glued down, tape down your center piece with double sided tape.
{Mine was the pop-up variety, and it worked great.)

Ideas for these paper star ornaments:
- Hang them on the Christmas tree.
- Give a set of them as a handmade gift for a friend.
- Use them instead of a bow when wrapping a package.
- Use different colored paper to give them a different look.
- Use buttons instead of sequin to give a more rustic look.

Looks like a found my Saturday project (to avoid folding laundry) – LOVE these!!
These are adorable! I think I just found the ornament I want to make my piano students – using Christmas hymn pages, of course!
OH Rita, these are adorable! I am going to have to see how they look using the pages from an old atlas. Maybe even chronicle our drive from Ohio to Alaska via the Alcan Hwy and then back again to Indiana. Thank you so very much for sharing!!
I picked up an old thick dictionary with gold edges at the Restore the other day to make something with. This will be beautiful! I will follow your tutorial (pausing as I go!) and make some for our Christmas tree! Thank you for sharing!
These are so pretty! Love the video, as I’m totally a visual person when it comes to following along. Are you stopping by the handmade gifts link party today?
