Top 10 Coffee Shops on Vancouver Island

My husband and I have been Vancouver Island “locals” for over 30 years now. One of our favorite things to do is look for new and fun coffee shops to visit while we’re out and about exploring. It’s part of the fun of adventure for us!

In sharing this list of our top 10 best coffee shops on Vancouver Island, it might be helpful for you to know that our favorite kind of coffee is simple – just brewed! But, we like to pair it with a delightfully delicious sweet treat.

The coffee shops listed below meet our requirements of good coffee + good atmosphere + yummy sweet treats. Although our brewed coffee is simple, most of the coffee shops below offer coffee drinks served up by a coffee barista.

01

Murchies – Victoria, BC

Murchies Tea & Coffee in downtown Victoria, BC is an iconic coffee & tea shop. The glass front bakery case is filled daily with sweet treats ranging from macaroons to nanaimo bars. You can have a lovely tea or coffee break with a sweet treat or even enjoy lunch. A gift shop complete with loose leaf tea for sale is attached to the restaurant. It’s a definite stop you need to make!

02

Cold Shoulder Cafe- Jordan River, BC

One of the charms of this delightful family run coffee shop is its location. It sort of appears along side the right in the middle of nowhere! We discovered it by sheer coincidence on the way to a beautiful beach, and thoroughly enjoyed a most delicious white chocolate raspberry scone with our coffee – with a view from the picnic table that takes your breath away!

03

Creekmore’s Coffee – Coombs, BC

We visited this darling little coffee shop on a drizzly day years ago. It was that notorious year when many things weren’t open at full capacity, so we took our order to go – and enjoyed every sip and bite.

04

Taste – Oak Bay

Enjoy coffee, tea, or lattes in Taste’s indoor or outdoor seating in Oak Bay. Along with a variety of baked goods, you can also get amazing salads, sandwiches, and soups. We enjoyed having coffee time out on the patio when we visited here years ago.

06

Wild Culture Bakery, Qualicum Beach, BC

When our GPS was taking us to the Wild Culture Bakery, we thought for sure it was mixed up. It seemed like it was leading us to a housing development, not a coffee shop! But, it was right. This delightful coffee shop is located beside a home with a charming outside patio and garden. They sell amazing sourdough bread, and we had the best raspberry scone EVER there.

07

Royston Roasters – Royston, BC

This darling coffee shop is on the way to one of our favorite spas, so a decadent coffee time at Royston Roasters is how we end our spa treatments. Along with yummy treats and special coffees, their storefront has a nifty garage door that opens up to the outside. It’s so fun!

08

Tin Town Cafe – Courtenay, BC

Located in the charming “tin town” area of Courtenay, BC, the Tin Town Cafe offers a wide variety of baked goods and sandwiches along with yummy hot drinks. You can dine in, shop in the gift shop, or take your coffees to go with you as you explore.

09

Hot Chocolates – Courtenay, BC

If you’re a fan of gelato or chocolates (or both), you must try out Hot Chocolates in Courtenay. My favorite treat there with my coffee is any cheesecake flavored gelato. It’s spectacular!

10

Island Grind – Campbell River, BC

Sit back and relax as you soak in the West Coast ambiance at one of Campbell River’s Island Grind locations. Treat yourself to a lunch panini with your barista made hot beverage, or enjoy a baked good from the local Dave’s Bakery. (The muffins are our favorite.) The atmosphere and attention to detail in the stores’ design makes it such a delight to visit.

Something to note as you tour Vancouver Island’s amazing coffee shops: Check each shop’s hours before going. Since some of them are family run, they might have unusual hours.
