Small Laundry Room Ideas
Small laundry rooms can still be beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully designed. These ideas show how to make the most of a small laundry space—without major renovations.
Small laundry rooms aren’t all that unusual—and I can say that with a measure of authority after spending a lot of time researching them! My sudden deep dive into laundry rooms came after my beloved washing machine died quickly & unexpectedly. And as these things tend to go, I figured if I was investing in a new machine, I might as well make the space it lived in a little nicer too.
One thing always leads to another.
I hadn’t spent much time planning a laundry space before, so I decided to learn from others who had. What I discovered is this: even a small laundry room can have big function and style when it’s thoughtfully designed.
Here are some of my favorite small laundry room ideas—and why they work.
1. Adding open shelving above a washer and dryer provides great storage space.
This small space incorporates beautiful finishes. I love those subway tiles, granite countertop, and stainless shelves. The crisp white walls and tiles make the space feel large and spacious ~ even though it’s small!
2. Laundry spaces can function well -despite where they are located.

Although this laundry space is in the garage, it is neat and organized with cupboards above, hangers below, and cute accessories!
3. Working with existing features ~ like a window ~ can enhance the laundry space.

This basement laundry room space is rather large and I really love the industrial feel of it. The pipe shelving and bar for hanging clothes stand out beautifully in this well lit space.
3. Baskets provide a neat and tidy solution to storage.

I love the contrast of the dark wall against the while appliances & accessories. Mixed with the warm wood tone of the shelves, I think it’s the perfect combination!
4. Adding a built in cupboard can be a pretty and practical solution.

I love, love, love the bright and happy space of pretty wallpaper, striped floor and rolled towels in baskets. So cute!!
5. Lighting up a small space can make it feel so much more spacious and happy.

Those cupboards above and the cute shelves with baskets underneath seem like a perfect organizational solution.
6. Adding a fun wall treatment & shelf above washer & dryer can add interest & function to a small laundry room.

This is what I ended up doing in our small laundry room! The wall plank look “wallpaper” is actually wallpaper stickers from the Dollar Store! See the whole makeover here.

What a relatable journey! It’s amazing how a broken washing machine can spark such creativity and inspiration.
I love your suggestion of hanging the dryer upside-down. Thank for your article, that helpful with me.
