Genius Hacks for Wrinkle Free Clothes Without Using an Iron or Steamer

In this article: Remove wrinkles without ironing with these quick and easy ideas for how to get wrinkles out of clothes

The other day, I reached for a shirt in my closet that I haven’t worn all Winter long. With the sun shining brightly and the sky blue, I wanted to wear something more “Springy”.

Even though it had been hung up on a hanger, it was wrinkled and rumpled, and honestly, I had no interest at all in dragging out the ironing board and iron or steamer…

So, I used a trick I learned years ago for how to get wrinkles out of clothes the quick and easy way. Here’s how:

  1. Hang the wrinkled shirt (or whatever you want to get the wrinkles out of) on a hook in the bathroom while you have a shower. (The closer to the shower, the better.) The steam from the shower will start to loosen up the wrinkled areas.
  2. Once you are all dried off, use your blow dryer and blow air on a medium to medium high setting inside the garmet. The combination of steam + warm air will help to loosen those wrinkles out and freshen up your wrinkled clothes.

This trick works well if you’re travelling and your clothes get a bit wrinkled from the suitcase, too.

I shared my trick in a little short video that you can see below:

Although there probably isn’t any method of wrinkle removal as good as ironing or steaming, here are some other genius no iron or steamer ways to get wrinkles out of clothes – or at the least make them a lot less wrinkly!;) The type of fabric the clothing item is made out of will determine how easily the wrinkles will release.

  • I’ve heard amazing things about this wrinkle release spray. (That set even comes in a handy travel size bottle.)
  • Put the wrinkled clothing in the dryer for a few minutes with an ice cube. The ice cube will melt and make a bit of moisture. Combined with the warm air of the dryer, the wrinkles will loosen out.
  • Following that same logic, you could also throw the clothing into a dryer with a wet cloth and some dryer balls to loosen the wrinkles, too. (Dryer balls can also be used to make laundry smell good!)

How to prevent wrinkles in clothes

The best and easiest way to get wrinkle free clothing is to prevent the wrinkles in the first place. Here are some tips for wrinkle prevention:

  • To prevent harsh wrinkles in your clothes when you travel, it’s recommended that rolling clothes rather than folding them will help prevent so many wrinkles from forming.
  • Remove your clothes from the dryer immediately after they are dry and hang them up.
  • I find that hanging my clothes to dry sometimes makes them a bit wrinkly, so I try to throw them into the dryer when they are still just a bit damp and run the fluff cycle with some dryer balls in it to fluff out the wrinkles.
  • If you really want to have easy breezy no wrinkle clothes, check the fabric type carefully before you buy it. Wad up a handful of fabric and squeeze it tight to see how easily it wrinkles before you buy it.
  • Leave space between your hanging clothes so they don’t smash up against each other and get wrinkled. I have found that thin velvet covered hangers save a lot of space!
