Help! How Do I Get Rid of This Menopause Belly?

Struggling with a menopause belly and wondering how to get rid of it? Here is a list of resources including nutritionists, coaches, & doctors to help coach you through nutrition & exercise to help you feel your very best after menopause.

I now understand what the term “menopause belly” means.

I live with one that stares back at me every day in the mirror.

A few years ago I had a hysterectomy (and told my hysterectomy story). As a result, I entered into the strange new world of menopause overnight. For the most part, I feel absolutely fabulous.

Menopause & Weight Gain in Stomach May Be Related

Although I am in no way, shape or form a medical professional, I have heard that menopause and weight gain in stomach may be caused because of hormonal changes.

Here is what an article from the Mayo Clinic says about that:

The hormonal changes of menopause might make you more likely to gain weight around your abdomen than around your hips and thighs. But, hormonal changes alone don’t necessarily cause menopause weight gain. Instead, the weight gain is usually related to aging, as well as lifestyle and genetic factors.

Motivation to Reverse the Menopause Belly Bloat

My desire to take charge and figure it out how to work at decreasing my newly changing belly increased substantially when I realized 2 days ago that last Winter’s clothes no longer fit, and I’m leaving for a cold weather trip in a few days!

But, more than that, I know deep down that with a few lifestyle changes, I believe that I could feel overall more “well” if I could learn better nutrition & exercise habits.

There are ways to decrease a menopause belly!

I went to my sweet Instagram sisters to ask for recommendations for resources to help, and they didn’t let me down.

The response was astounding, and I found out a few things from fellow menopause sisters:

  1. You are NOT ALONE if you are struggling with menopause weight gain or a menopause belly. SO MANY OF US are in the same boat!
  2. I heard from ladies who have struggled with it, but educated themselves, made some changes in their nutrition and lifestyle, and lost their meno belly. So, there is HOPE, girls!;)
  3. We need to make intentional lifestyle decisions regarding exercise and nutrition to feel our best in the menopause years. What may have worked before, just might not work now.

Resources for help with menopause nutrition

I once changed my eating habits and lost 28 pounds. The single thing that helped the most was mindset. Rather than focusing on the number on the scale or the size of my clothing, I concentrated instead on learning new healthy habits that would give me an overall better feeling of wellness.

I want to do the same thing at this stage of my life, too.
