Ham & Cheese Slider Sandwiches
Friday was a big day for me. It marked the end of my stint cooking in the camp kitchen. {Whew!!} Well, it probably doesn’t mean an complete end, but *hopefully* it marks the end of the full responsibility of it all…
So, in celebration of that monumental day, I thought I’d share with you a new recipe I’ve just recently discovered (here). It’s been a big hit, and it might be helpful for you if you have to cook for a crowd (or just your family!). This recipe is easily adapted to any sized group. We were serving 65, and made around 140 sandwiches. We figure on over 2 per person ~ since they’re just little itty bitty sandwiches.
Here’s the scoop:
Step One: Find yourself a great helper.
Everyone say “hi” to Tim! He was so patient with me as I kept turning out lights to take all these pictures…:)
Step 2: Cut dinner buns open and lay face up on countertop.
Step 3: Spread mayonnaise (or miracle whip, or a mixture of both) on the centers of both halves of the buns.
Step 4: Lay deli ham (or any other kind of deli meat of choice) on one side of the bun and a half slice of cheese (mozzarella or swiss) on the other.
Step 5: Close the buns and nestle them all snug and close into a baking pan.
Step 6: Mix up the secret ingredients to make up the special butter sauce.
For 24 buns, here is the sauce:
1 Tablespoon poppy seeds
1 1/2 Tablespoon mustard
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Step 7: Line up all the pans in a row and pour the sauce over the top. Use a pastry brush to spread it evenly over each bun.
Step 8: Once the butter sauce starts to harden slightly, cover each pan with foil.
Bake at 350 degrees for 12- 15 minutes or until the cheese starts to melt. Then uncover and bake for 2 more minutes until tops are slightly brown and crispy.
And there you have it. Hot and yummy sandwiches that just melt in your mouth! We served it with veggies and dip and fruit (for kids) and tomato basil soup (for ladies).

Those look yummy! Bet your helper loved getting his picture taken, eh? 😉
I made these on regular sized, bakery hamburger rolls for our churches Good Friday supper. We also did half of them with roast beef and cheddar. We drizzled the butter sauce over the meat, instead of mayo, closed the buns and drizzled sauce over the tops. We served them with salads. Great buffet hot item to serve a crowd!
P.S. We added onion and garlic powder to the sauce as well.
