Cutting Edge Stencilled Dresser

Finding affordable furniture that matches your style can be challenging, but sometimes, all it takes is a bit of imagination and a thrift store treasure. I found this dresser for just $20, and while it wasn’t much to look at initially, I saw a world of possibilities. With some paint and stencils, I embarked on a fun DIY project to give it a brand-new look. The transformation was nothing short of amazing, turning a plain old dresser into a stunning, eye-catching piece. Follow along as I share the before and after photos, and show you how you too can create a stylish update for your home without spending a fortune.

With some paint and stencils, I started a fun DIY project to give it a brand-new look. The transformation was so much fun! It turned a damaged, scratched up old dresser into something totally different. Here’s what I did:

1.Prime and Paint the Dresser

I first primed and painted it (Cottage White by Behr) one warm summer evening and have been using it in my Dining Room to store craft supplies.  It moved downstairs when I got all inspired to create a “Craft Studio”.
It’s creamy color wasn’t working with the scheme I had in mind. (And the distressing I tried on it didn’t really work with this style of dresser…)

2. Paint it a Fresh White Color

So, I painted it a fresh, crisp white…(completely untinted out of the can in a semi-gloss finish by Behr).
Then…the fun part…

3. Stencil the Drawer Fronts with Cutting Edge Stencils

Cutting Edge Stencils contacted me months ago asking me if I’d like to try out one of their products for review.  I didn’t hesitate in answering yes! ~ Except, I had a terrible time choosing which stencil I wanted.  Their selection is huge.  You can check it out here.
In the end, I chose “Nagoya” in the medium craft size.

After impatiently waiting for the paint to completely dry, I lightly sanded the drawer fronts and stencilled following the video directions here with “Green Tea” acrylic paint by Americana…{**The kind lady from Cutting Edge strongly encouraged me to watch the video before starting to prevent any frustrations…I highly agree.}

The lighting in that room is beyond frustrating to take pictures in.  But, really there is a difference in the main color…

And although the stencilled color looks a little yellow in the pictures, it is in reality a lovely green color…
vintage hardware
I had that old hardware from a previous project.  It shined up really nice and adds a fun little vintage “sparkle”.
