Cutting Edge Stencilled Dresser

Finding affordable furniture that matches your style can be challenging, but sometimes, all it takes is a bit of imagination and a thrift store treasure. I found this dresser for just $20, and while it wasn’t much to look at initially, I saw a world of possibilities. With some paint and stencils, I embarked on a fun DIY project to give it a brand-new look. The transformation was nothing short of amazing, turning a plain old dresser into a stunning, eye-catching piece. Follow along as I share the before and after photos, and show you how you too can create a stylish update for your home without spending a fortune.

With some paint and stencils, I started a fun DIY project to give it a brand-new look. The transformation was so much fun! It turned a damaged, scratched up old dresser into something totally different. Here’s what I did:

1.Prime and Paint the Dresser

I first primed and painted it (Cottage White by Behr) one warm summer evening and have been using it in my Dining Room to store craft supplies.  It moved downstairs when I got all inspired to create a ā€œCraft Studioā€.
Itā€™s creamy color wasnā€™t working with the scheme I had in mind. (And the distressing I tried on it didnā€™t really work with this style of dresserā€¦)

2. Paint it a Fresh White Color

So, I painted it a fresh, crisp whiteā€¦(completely untinted out of the can in a semi-gloss finish by Behr).
Thenā€¦the fun partā€¦

3. Stencil the Drawer Fronts with Cutting Edge Stencils

Cutting Edge Stencils contacted me months ago asking me if Iā€™d like to try out one of their products for review.  I didnā€™t hesitate in answering yes! ~ Except, I had a terrible time choosing which stencil I wanted.  Their selection is huge.  You can check it out here.
In the end, I chose ā€œNagoyaā€ in the medium craft size.

After impatiently waiting for the paint to completely dry, I lightly sanded the drawer fronts and stencilled following the video directions here with ā€œGreen Teaā€ acrylic paint by Americanaā€¦{**The kind lady from Cutting Edge strongly encouraged me to watch the video before starting to prevent any frustrationsā€¦I highly agree.}
Here it is before:

And after:

The lighting in that room is beyond frustrating to take pictures in.  But, really there is a difference in the main colorā€¦

And although the stencilled color looks a little yellow in the pictures, it is in reality a lovely green colorā€¦
vintage hardware
I had that old hardware from a previous project.  It shined up really nice and adds a fun little vintage ā€œsparkleā€.
