Embracing the In-Between

Embracing the simplicity of life in the "in between" phase of transition to a new home.

The moving truck had barely pulled away from the driveway when I first got these words of advice,

“Now, Rita, don’t fall in love with this house, ’cause you can’t have it for long!”

I laughed, but I knew deep down in my heart ~

It was too late.

I already loved it.

Now that we’ve been here for a whopping 2 1/2 months, I must say, I’ve fallen even more in love with it. I love the beautiful kitchen, happy wall color, and the super duper function of the open concept living space.

I love the bathrooms (not 1, but 2!!) with swanky finishes like glass doors and ceramic tile. (Now that I’ve figured out how to clean them!;))

I love how I can turn up the thermostat and get the house warm in minutes (as opposed to dragging in firewood during a downpour!).

I love how our little deck is perched under a tree and provides just the right amount of sun and shade.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture ~ I love this place.

It’s our “in between” place that represents more than just 4 walls and a place to call home.

It’s the special place God has given us during this “in between” time of our lives.  It’s been taking such good care of us. I feel spoiled and loved and cared for by it.

And, now we’re on the hunt for the next one.

Here we are, married for almost 26 years and trying to wrap our heads around buying our very first home.

I’m more terrified than excited, to be honest!

As we look at ads and features and prices of the very hot housing market here, I appreciate this pretty “in between” house even more.  We really don’t know what we’ll end up with in the Fall. It could be very different from what we’re in now.

But, rather than live in worry and fear and fixating on the “what will be”, I’ve been trying to just rest and revel in the beauty and blessings of today; to appreciate and live to the fullest right now.

Melissa Michaels wrote a book a few years ago called Love the Home You Have: Simple Ways to…Embrace Your Style *Get Organized *Delight in Where You Are. I’ve always loved that concept, and have tried to practice it wherever I’ve lived.

Now, she’s recently written the book Make Room for What You Love: Your Essential Guide to Organizing and Simplifying.  I was honored to get a copy  as part of her book launch group, and I’ve been slowly savoring it chapter by chapter.  I feel that – although I’ve never met her – Melissa is someone who God strategically placed in my life when I needed a mentor.

She helped me by giving great tips on moving, and is a wonderful example of transitioning to a new space and life with grace.

Little does she know, her book is helping me with the next step in my journey.

“Making Room”. My journey is starting here:
