Rental House Tour: The Laundry Room

I’ve toyed with lots of ideas with the whole “House Tour” subject lately. I thought about trying to do a series on how to personalize a rental house. I had lofty ideas and all kinds of plans. But, honestly, it seemed like a poor use of my time. Reality is, we’ll be packing up and leaving this lovely in-between house in just a few months.

The house hunt is on, and I’m more than slightly terrified. What a big decision!

However, all things house hunting aside, I decided to finish out our rental house tour anyway.

This tour isn’t going to be all “1000 Summer decor ideas for your home” or wowwy kaxowwy (I just made that up!) drop dead gorgeous images. What it is, though, is how we’re using this house right now. We love it. It functions oh, so well, and feels like a warm hug on a cold day.

Whoever renovated this house did it so thoughtfully. There is storage where it’s needed, the fixtures and finishes are pretty and easy to maintain, and I think the floor plan is amazing.

I thought I’d share it with all of you who may be making big decisions regarding renovations and all things storage. Perhaps you can get some ideas that will help you in your situation too.

So, without any more preamble, I’m going to take you downstairs. At the front door entryway, you can either go up, or down. If you choose to go down, you’ll see this from the top of the stairs.

Straight ahead is a bright and pretty laundry room. That’s where we’re headed today.

What do I love about it, you ask? Well, first of all, I love that the door has a window in it so lots of natural light comes in. It doesn’t feel like I’m doing laundry in a dungeon!!:) (BTW, The door leads out to the backyard and under the deck shed.)

I also love the cupboards above the washer and dryer that can hold a multitude of cleaning supplies, light bulbs, etc. Although almost all the shelves are too high for me to reach standing on the floor, I can always grab the step stool and get whatever I need.  The bar above works great for hang drying clothing items, too. Again, I can’t reach it, but the rest of my family can!:)

Opposite the washer/ dryer wall is the laundry sink ~ complete with some more storage cupboards, and beside it is one of the simplest most amazing organizers of all:

~an ironing board and iron wall organizer. I’ve always wanted to try one of these. Now I know they’re amazing!:)

The closet that is peeking out beside the laundry sink houses all the ugly, but oh, so necessary items ~ the water heater and furnace.

And there you have it, my little laundry room at the bottom of the stairs. Oh! Did you hear that? My dryer is singing at me. Another load of clothes is ready to be folded!:)
