Nostalgic Christmas Decorations: A Cozy Home Tour of Meaningful Memories
Take a cozy tour of our small townhouse decorated with nostalgic Christmas decorations – brimming with cheery colors and treasured memories…
Hi, Sweet Friends – come on in!! Our dreary, dark rainy weather week suddenly turned to blue sky and sunshine, so I decided it was the perfect time to grab my camera and snap some pictures of our little townhouse decorated for Christmas.
Of course I will show them to you – as lots of you seem to enjoy Christmas decorating ideas, but it’s also for slightly selfish reasons, too. Taking pictures of our Christmas decor each year is part of our own Christmas stories – and helps us remember the changes each year brings.
Since this blog has started, each year there is are new Christmas pictures – and I find it fun to go back and remember what changes – and what stays the same. In fact, earlier I put together a post of some our Christmas tree decorations and budget friendly Christmas decorations ideas from years past.
And, since I no longer torture myself to try to get a Christmas letter in the mail to all our friends and family each year, I thought this year I’d roll two traditions in one – a home tour and a Christmas card family update!
Come on in…
Nostalgic Christmas Decorations in the Living Room
After my husband & I were engaged, I loved to hear marriage advice from happily married couples. One of the best pieces of marriage advice we got was this, “Prepare for the empty nest even before you have kids. One day it will be just the two of you – and you’ll want to make sure you still enjoy being together!”
So, I guess you could say we’ve been preparing for 34 years for this Christmas – as it will be our first truly “Empty Nest Christmas”.
We did have a delightful time this past July – being able to see all of our kids and soak in lots of fun memories with our darling granddaughter.
But, we’re determined not to sit around and mope in our quiet house this Christmas. We’re creating new traditions, and savouring the season.
Christmas Decorations for Bookshelves
We decided that the theme of Christmas at our house this year would be nostalgic and cheerful. So, we dug out all our favorite Christmas decorations we’ve collected over the years and set it all out. Isn’t that just the perfect (and typical) “Coastal Grandmother style” of decorating?? ha ha!
Christmas in the Dining Room
Our townhouse has just one main living space, so the tree gets to be shared by both the living and dining room. We’ve been enjoying Grandma’s angel chimes again now that we found candles to fit in it again!
