Sweet and Sour Sausage

freezer meals button

Today’s make ahead meal is one especially for the crock pot.  The crock pot has become an often used appliance in my kitchen.  Not only is it great for a busy day, but it also eliminates turning on the oven if the weather is  hot.

For easy assembly of this recipe, I stand up the {heavy duty} freezer bags in bowls and put the ingredients right into the bag.  Easy peasy!

 sweet and sour sausage

1 pound fully cooked kielbasa or Mennonite sausage

1 can (500ml) pineapple chunks, undrained

1 1/2 cups carrots, quartered lengthwise

1 large green pepper, cut into 1” pieces

1 medium onion, cut into chunks

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 T. soya sauce

1 chicken bouillon cube

1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/4 tsp. ground ginger

2 Tbsp. cornstarch

1/4 cup cold water

Combine everything BUT cornstarch and water in a bag.  Freeze.  To serve:  Thaw and put in crockpot for 4-5 hours on low.  Combine cornstarch and water and add to crockpot, turned on high, for last 15 minutes, stir occasionally.  Serve over rice.  Serves 6.

  1. We love kielbasa, so I’m definitely bookmarking this! 🙂 It’s getting hot here, so I think I’d like to use my crockpot more this summer!
