What you’ll love about this recipe:

  • QUICK TO MAKE IN ONE SKILLET – Sloppy joes are my go to recipe when my day has been long, it’s dinner time, and nothing is ready! I’ve made this so many times that I don’t even need to look at the recipe anymore…From start to finish, you can have dinner on the table in under 30 minutes.
  • KID FRIENDLY – Kids and adults love these sandwiches! They are a perfect menu item if you need to feed a group of teens or elementary school kids. In fact, my mom’s recipe card has measurement calculations for how to make this recipe with 10 pounds of hamburger! I think she fed them to the whole church…;)
  • EASY CLEANUP – This meal can be made in just one skillet – making doing the dishes a whole lot easier.
  • NO SPECIAL PACKAGED INGREDIENTS NEEDED – I’ve seen packaged sloppy joe mixes that you can purchase in the store, but this old fashioned classic recipe doesn’t need any of that. The easy sloppy joe sauce is just a few ingredients that you probably already have in the door of your refrigerator.;)
  • THESE CLASSIC SLOPPY JOES TASTE DELICIOUS! – I don’t mean to brag, but sloppy joes are kind of my thing… I LOVE them and have tried all different recipes over the year. But, hands down, this classic recipe of my mom’s is the BEST!!

  1. Drain the extra grease off the meat by pushing all the meat to one side of the pan and tilting it down the other side until the grease runs to one side. Use a spoon or ladle and remove all the grease that pools in the pan and place it in a bowl or can to dispose of in the garbage later. (Never pour grease down the sink!)

Where did this old fashioned sloppy joe recipe come from?

This sloppy joe recipe came directly from my Mom’s recipe box. She made this for our family many, many times when I was growing up. And, it was one of the first recipes I made on my own!

What do you serve with sloppy joes?

Since sloppy joes are often a quick meal solution, the quickest side dish to serve with them is potato chips. (Yum!) You can also add a slice of your favorite kind of cheese and sliced pickles if you like both or either of those things.
