One Room Challenge ~ Area Rug Accent
Welcome to week 5 of the One Room Challenge! In case you’re new here, let me catch you up to date. I decided to join a group of bloggers who particpate in a challenge of making over a room in 6 weeks, thanks to Linda ~ who leads up the whole event.
We just moved into a new-to-us townhouse a month ago, so the room I chose was the Living & Dining Room (& Entryway).
It’s the main hub of the house and is where we spend lots of our time. After studying a plethora of inspiration photos, I decided to add personality into the space and give it a Modern Industrial Farmhouse feel.
So far, we’ve painted the walls Simply White, added feature walls in the Dining Room (Iron Mountain by Benjamin Moore), and assembled Ikea’s Billy Bookcase system for much needed storage.
This week, I don’t have a big “wow” project to show, as I’ve been spending time doing lots of thinking (and window shopping)! I still haven’t discovered the perfect couch, but I did find something yesterday that makes me very happy.
This:
A new rug, with the colors that I wanted to add into the space.
I was thrilled to find it right here in town ~ at Walmart, of all places!! (and for only $39.00!)
It has given me new inspiration for other projects, and I’m thinking I can pull colors from the rug for other areas in the house, too.
I expect this weekend to be a busy one as we try really hard to finish up all the projects we have cooked up for this space ~

next week is the big reveal!!
One Room Challenge To Do List:
- Change out light fixtures.
(One done, one to go.) Paint the bizarre brown racing stripe around the perimeter of the room’s ceiling out.Paint out the dreadfully dark builder’s beige color.Add some feature walls of interest in the Dining Room space.Figure out storage space solutions.- Re-design the entryway closet to function better and have a little style.
- Hang up art
Find lighting solutions to brighten up the room during the day and night.- Start shopping for a new couch/ new chairs? (This may just be a dream…)

Wow! What a great deal, Rita!! I’m sure it’s going to add so much to the space. I need to check out Walmart area rugs.
How much do I love that rug?! Walmart can really come through sometimes-what a fantastic find! Good luck pulling it all together in this next week, it’s crunch time! 🙂
