Decorating with Flowers

Yesterday I gave you my little run down of speed cleaning tips.  One thing I didn’t mention was how important it is to reward yourself as motivation to finishing your to do list.  I have a few personal favourite “rewards”:

  • The Nate Berkus show used to be on at 11 am.  That was my biggest motivator of all.  I’d try to get as much done as possible, and then I’d sit down and learn from my friend Nate.  But alas, our networks now play his show at 7am and 10 pm.  I rarely see Nate anymore…
  • A nice bowl of Moose Tracks ice cream and a cup of coffee.  {That isn’t so good for my waist line, though…}
  • or…  taking a few minutes to accessorize the (now clean and tidy) rooms.

Yes, that is one of the rewards of speed cleaning.

This time, I decided to go to my yard for room accessories and see what I could come up with from the plants that are now blooming/ growing.

pink roses ps

So far, we’ve managed to keep the deer away from the pink rose bush.  (Hallelujah…)

rose vignette ps

I used a glass frog in a small square bowl and just placed one rose in each opening.  A few extras float nicely in the little vintage egg cup.

yellow pansies ps

Yellow pansies in front of a mirror add a splash of color to the bookcase.

pansies and tray ps

Just a few pansies in some old bottles (one is an aspirin bottle) contrast against the white shells on the coffee table tray.

ferns on buffet ps

I needed something tall and larger for the Dining Room buffet top.  A variety of fern leaves did the trick.

bouquet for table ps

I decided to bring in our one precious peony to enjoy from our kitchen table. The red leaves are from some sort of tree.  I have no idea what it is (do you?), but I just love its rich, deep red color.

What flowers do you like to decorate with?

  1. Looove these. I love decorating with flowers but I have none outside to choose from because I am a TERRIBLE gardener and when I buy them my cat goes crazy and tears them up. I thought about trying some of those DIY flowers I keep seeing but nothing compares to the real thing. Beautiful post!
