Summer Camp Cooking at Woodsman

Update: This post was originally written on July 10, 2013. I’ve recently recorded a podcast describing this Woodsman camp kitchen and some precious memories of this place. You can listen to Fireside Songs and Butterscotch Brownies here.

In the podcast, I described in detail the cook tent pictured below. It no longer exists, so it’s a bit of history!;)

For those of you who’ve been wondering if I’ve dropped off the face of the earth~

thanks for missing me.Smile

All is well here at Harbour Breeze Home land, but I haven’t spent much time at home the past few weeks.

First, I was out at our Woodsman Camp cooking for 50 teenagers.

The days just seemed to fly by.  It’s hard to describe our little “kitchen in the woods”.  But, let me tell you, I never have as much fun cooking at home as I did there.  Perhaps my fun “co-chefs” had something to do with that!Smile  In between cooking pans and pans of bacon,  mastering a mountain of scalloped potatoes, and making pudding pies, we found many, many things to laugh about.  Work never feels like work when you’re having so much fun!

It was also a treat to have a happy, helpful dish crew after each meal to clean up all the dishes.

(See, Moms, teenagers DO do the dishes!Winking smile)

There’s just something so peaceful about being in a setting where the normal daily distractions of life aren’t the focus.

Getting back to normal routines after camp

After we tackled a mountain of laundry and settled back in at home, the camp filled up again with a group of family campers.  It has been so fun to connect with old friends and meet some new ones, too.

I even discovered a few “soul sisters”…you know, the kind that also love home decor, painting old furniture, and lay awake at night dreaming up new projects!

I hope you’re having a great Summer!
