Pretty Projects

Sometimes when a project idea pops in my head, it’s relatively straight forward.  I start with a goal in mind and just go for it.

Bing. Bang. Boom.

In relatively short order, it’s done with a horrid before picture and a much improved after one.

Sometimes, though, projects spin into an unexpected vortex of sequences that seem never ending.

My little closet project has done just that.

I posted my dream pictures with a spark of an idea in my head.

In my lofty plans, I thought I could quickly do a little makeover in a few days.

Silly, silly me.

This project has turned into much, much more than that…

In a really good way.

It became a process very similar to what I watched years ago on a show called Clean Sweep with Peter Walsh.  Peter and his team would go into a  home where a person struggled with organization in hoarder proportions.

He so very kindly, yet firmly, walked  people through understanding why they held onto stuff so much.

There was lots of psychology involved and usually a few tears.  But, in the end, the people felt renewed and excited to have a fresh start in life in a newly organized, pretty space.

It was through those shows that I learned how much we as people are tied to our environment.  When we live in the middle of a mess we feel WE are a mess!  Lots of guilt and shame are associated with it, as well as weight gain! {Can you believe it?}  He even wrote a book called, Does this Clutter Make my Butt Look Fat?

clutter

I make a promise – you cannot make your best choice or your healthiest choice in a cluttered, messy, disorganised home; it just doesn’t happen. Your home should be a place you create that enables you to live the life you want.”~Peter Walsh

Now’s when I spill a little secret…

So, lean in, look in my eyes, and I’m going to whisper, ok?

I’ve been feeling really ugly for a long time.

Oh, my.  That sentence was hard to write.

It all boils down to those pesky pounds that have snuck up on me and been undealt with for years.

Somehow I had unconsciously determined that UNTIL I was thinner, I couldn’t spend too much time, money, or effort on how I looked now.

I was in creating a defeatist “we’ll just have to make do” situation on myself!

The process of making my closet pretty has expanded into much deeper areas ~mainly myself.

I decided to take action.  Right about that time, I discovered an online fashion course for Women over 40.

I decided the $24.99 would be a wise investment.  And, let me tell you girls, it was!  This little “course” is brilliant, in my opinion.  Once you sign up, you get a shopping list.  I read years ago that most people only wear 20% of their wardrobe 90% of the time.  I don’t know about you, but I only want to buy the 20%!!  The shopping list helps you choose wisely, and bonus!, I ended up having almost everything already in my closet!   Then, each day, in my e-mail, I get an outfit of the day.  They put together 21 outfits based on the basic pieces from the shopping list.

I have found a new joy and confidence through the process.  Part of the options available is to join a Facebook group with other participants.  Let me tell you ~ they are a very sweet, encouraging group of ladies!

So, now I’m happy to announce, another course is about to be launched!

Winter-Sample-3

[Fair Isle Cardigan/Layering Tee/Skinny Jeans/Fur Scarf/Riding Boots]

How Much Does it Cost to Participate?

If you were working one-on-one with a stylist and personal shopper, the average cost of a capsule wardrobe and 21 days of styling options would be well over $1,000! But one of the beliefs that I founded GYPO on is that great style should be accessible and affordable for everyone. That’s why I’ve made participation in the Style Me Pretty Challenge available for just $24.99 ($29.99 for late registration).

Will I Have to Invest a lot of Money into the Shopping List?

It’s really up to you how much you want to spend. If you participated in the fall challenge, many of the pieces will be reused in this challenge.  A lot of the other pieces will already be in your closet, I’m just showing you different ways to pair them up. I style each item on the shopping list an average of four different ways in order to have less items on the list and show you more ways to wear them.  If you decide to buy new items, you’re free to shop at your favorite stores and spend as much or as little as you want. Shopping list recommendations will include items from Target, Loft, Nordstrom, Land’s End, Boden, Old Navy and other stores with both online and in store shopping options.

Winter/Holiday Challenge Timeline:
      • November 21st – Registration opens.
      • November 27th – Regular registration closes at midnight ET. Late registration opens.
