When I was growing up, cranberry sauce always came out of a can and was served in my mom’s beautiful Fostoria dish. It was just part of the tradition! But years ago, my sister gave me the idea of making fresh cranberry sauce from scratch with a simple bag of Ocean Spray cranberries—and I was sold from the very first batch.

This version is quick, easy, and adds a special little twist with mandarin oranges. The combination of tart cranberries and sweet citrus makes it a truly delightful side dish for your turkey dinner—and maybe even better the next day on leftover sandwiches!

Cranberry Sauce with Mandarin Oranges

This cranberry sauce with mandarin oranges is a quick, homemade version of the classic holiday favorite—sweet, tangy, and perfectly festive.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 (12 oz) bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 small can mandarin oranges, drained (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the cranberries, return to a boil, and boil gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the drained mandarin oranges and boil 5–7 minutes more, until cranberries are mostly split and softened.
  4. Cool to room temperature and garnish with extra orange segments if desired.
  5. Store covered in the refrigerator. Serve warm or cold.
