Basement Window Covering

Today I want to introduce you to my basement window.  There it is…front and center…in all its beauty??  Hmmm…not so much…

Those of you who live in newer homes probably don’t have the same oddities uniqueness as those of us with older homes…but I figured that some of you may be faced with similar dilemmas as mine.

Here are the problem areas of my window…

window problem areas

1.  Low ceiling height.  I really want to try to make my wall look taller than it actually is.  {Will that require a miracle?}

2.  A strange “jutting out” portion of the wall…which forms #4. A shelf that extends only for part of the wall.

And my personal favorite is number 3:  A handsome piece of plywood that covers up two broken panes of the window.

Of course in an effort to spiff things up when we moved in, I painted part of it bright yellow.  It looks horrific now… {We’ll address that later.}

Some solutions to problems are pretty.  This one is not.  But, functional and simple it is.

I had my husband screw in a hunk of wood (how’s that for a technical term??) so that my curtain rod holder would extend beyond that weird jutting out piece of the wall.

He did the same thing to the other side.

Then after himming and hawwing over the plethora of curtain options, I discovered what I loved the most I already had (bonus!)…

Simple and white.

Now, please pretend with me that there isn’t the odd yellow in the window, the curtains are ironed and hemmed, and the trim piece is under the window…

Thank you.:)

Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
