31 Ways to Make Home Uniquely You

5 years ago last month we moved into the charming old house {by the sea!} that we’re currently living in.

I was excited at the thought of “quickly” doing a few  things to make it feel like home. I had, after all, discovered I absolutely loved the whole “home-making” thing.

But, then, something strange happened.

I got stuck ~ big time.

Instead of “quickly” painting, sprucing, fixing, and fluffing, I found myself unable to make ANY decision decor-wise. I was overwhelmed, insecure, and terrified that I would somehow do something wrong.  I had started down the slippery slope of comparing myself (and our house) to others’, and  couldn’t even decide what was “me” any more.

The good news is, I eventually became unstuck, and have since been loving the journey of creating a  home that is uniquely us.

I made some delightful discoveries along the way.  Sometimes making a space feel like home means only doing simple little things ~ like putting a few fresh flowers in a vase on the shelf or rearranging the furniture.  Other things ~ like changing a room’s paint color ~ seem a little more challenging, but now I know it doesn’t need to be scary!!  Most importantly, I discovered the joy of embracing “unique”.  No decor police are going to come knocking on my door to tell me something is wrong.  {Hallelujah!}

I’ve decided to join the Nester and other bloggers in a 31 Day blogging challenge.  For the rest of this month, I’d like to share some of the ways I’ve learned to make our house feel more like home.  I’m hoping to include practical tips, helpful resources, diy projects, and even introduce you to some of the people who’ve inspired me in my own journey.
