How to Make Paper Star Ornaments

Welcome to the 1st day of the Handmade Christmas Ideas series! I’ve been wondering which project to start with, but my friend Shannon from Fox Hollow Cottage helped me out (without even knowing it!:)).  She and her friend are having a big ol’ party on Sunday showcasing Dollar Store and Budget friendly Christmas crafts.

I certainly didn’t want to miss a fun party, so I pulled out one of my all-time favorite budget friendly Christmas crafts for today:

How to Make Paper Star Ornaments:

This project requires only a few supplies:

  • 9 3×3″ squares of paper
  • glue (something stronger than a glue stick will be needed)
  • paper punch
  • string
  • bobbles or buttons for center
  • hot glue gun

The sky is the limit as far as what paper type you use. You can use pretty scrapbook paper, or just plain white computer paper.

I chose to use pages from an old hymn book.

Once it is all glued together, I use a hot glue gun to glue on something special in the center. This time I used buttons, but I’ve also used sparkly gems, or mini jingle bells would be cute, too!

Using a small hole punch,  punch a hole in the top, and thread the string through.  Tie it in a knot and it’s ready to hang on a tree or decorate a package with.

I like to set up a little tray and fold these little beauties while I watch Christmas movies.

Happy creating!

Do you make handmade ornaments, too? If so, I would love to know what you make. Feel free to describe them in the comments, and we can be inspired by your creations, too!:)

  1. I love how easy this is to make (and inexpensive too!). Next Sunday is our last Life Group until the new year and I plan on making one for everyone as a little take home gift. Thanks Rita!
