5 Minute Towel Organization

It dawned on me just the other day.

I was standing on my tip-toes trying not to fall into the toilet while I rifled through a leaning tower of toppling towels…

I could have, perhaps, just grabbed the one on the top.  But, no…

It wasn’t a “good” one!

The whole frustrating experience made me realize a solution was oh, so simple.

Why didn’t I just toss out the “not good” ones??

{Sometimes I can be a little slow to catch on….}

As I grabbed the whole stack and started to go through them, I realized some of them were the very towels that came from beautiful, shiny wrapped packages on our wedding day…

It was time to let go of the ones that were ripped, torn, or adorned with long hanging strings on the edges…

It was perhaps the most rewarding and simplest “simplifying” projects of all.

Now ALL the towels are the “good” ones…

Ahhh…so much better!:)

And, lest you fret that we don’t have enough towels now, worry not.  We have the very best of the best being put to use ~ hanging up on their little bathroom hooks.

Now, here’s a question for you.  What color of towels do you like?  I find I’m drawn to white ones in the pictures…but practically speaking??  No thanks…

  1. Your minimalist style is so enviable but, sadly, no matter how hard I try I just can’t pare things down that far. In my defense, I have been woking on my towel collection and the wedding gifts from 38 years ago are all in the rag basket. Now I need to get rid of some of my rags!

  2. I remember as a newlywed, remarking to my best female friend that ratty towels made an otherwise nice bathroom very depressing and that I would never allow that state of affairs in my home. Fast forward 15 years to realize that ratty towels had crept up on me unawares. I replaced them with just enough brand new towels to have one set being used while the other set were in the wash. I find that lush towels in good condition in soothing colors make me feel pampered in the bathroom no matter how much I am pinching pennies elsewhere.

  3. We only have white and light brown towels (except the kids each have 2 colorful stripey ones from IKEA), and although you think it might not be practical, everytime I wash them I use bleach in the bleach dispenser, and they are bacterial free. The light brown ones doesn’t get affected by the bleach. My husband use the brown ones and I use the white ones.
When I replaced them I moved our previous towels downstairs to the laundry room and normally the kids use them during Summer when they run through the sprinklers or sometimes you just need a older towel for something.

  4. Rita, I was just looking at our wedding towels today, and thinking I should really get rid of them! They’re almost 18 years old. 🙂 And yes, they are the super thin -rarely used in our house anymore- ones! 😉
