Resting

Today’s Sunday.

The “day of rest”.

I’m taking that as literally as humanly possible.  In fact, I got out of bed at the crack of 12:30 today.

I can’t remember a time when I’ve been more thankful for a time to rest…

I just sat out here on my front deck sipping a cup of coffee and listened to the birds sing.

Ah, blessed rest…

I received an email from a dear friend.  She said she’d been noticing how my blog had been quiet, and assumed I was pretty busy in the camp kitchen.

Yes.  Yes, I am.

Some of our groups are now over 100. For a novice (who really doesn’t enjoy cooking at the best of times!), this whole gig is a pretty big challenge.  As I try to sort out the bigger group sizes and the quantities and groceries they require, my mind is constantly spinning over food-related issues.  I often get home at 7 pm, go to bed at 8:30, and then proceed to spend the night dreaming about the kitchen!!

Needless to say, there isn’t much time for blogging.

But, it’s not that I haven’t thought about it.  In fact, I wrote quite a few blogs in my head, and took the accompanying pictures.  Here’s a few snippets of what I wanted to write about…

When I was a mom with three busy little boys running around, I never stopped to think what Mother’s Day would look like when they got older.  They pulled out all the stops this year, and gave me the most special day ever ~ including a bouquet of flowers, weeding my flower bed, AND cooking me dinner!!  What a great day it was.

Once upon a time a long, long time ago (1986), I met this handsome young man.  At the beginning of our friendship, we were summer camp counsellors together.  At one of our first camps we laughed and chatted together while eating the most delicious oatmeal cake for breakfast.  I got the recipe from the cook that day. Never in a million years would I have thought that someday we’d be married and baking that same cake…

{Someday I’ll try to post the recipe.  It’s really simple and yummy ~ served with maple syrup and milk!}

Yesterday was a shopping day to get supplies for the camp craft shop.  As we were nearing the end of the day, I picked up some flowers for our front flower bed.  Although I know I’ll be uber busy and won’t have much time for gardening, I just couldn’t bear not to have some cheery little flowers by the front door.  I put them in the ground as soon as we got home lest I left them too long to die in their little containers.  (Not that I’ve ever done that before…)

In addition to this amazing day of rest, I also get tomorrow off.  (Woo Hoo!)  In my mind, I’m writing blog posts about this year’s camp craft projects.  We’ll see if they actually get from my mind to the computer…

But, for now, I have an appointment ~

with my pillow.

(I feel another nap coming on!;))
