Christmas Around the House {The Entrance}

As I was contemplating what to do for Christmas decor this year, I decided to give myself a challenge. I wanted to completely change the look of my decorations without buying anything new.

Today I tackled the entryway. Aside from a box of discounted ornaments I bought last year after Christmas and a string of white twinkle lights, I haven’t even dug into my Christmas totes yet. I found it a lot of fun to repurpose “normal” things into Christmas decor.

Our entrance is sort of a dark area in our home, so I wanted to make it light and bright. A silver platter Christmas tree was the starting point.

It’s the Christmas alternative to our {boring} lamp. The base is a footed fruit bowl filled with white twinkle lights. I left them trailing out the back so I could then wind it up and around the 3-tiered platter. Fresh greenery and some glittery bronzed ornaments fill up the trays. It makes a nice, happy light in that dark corner.

The artwork in the center was a piece I started for the craft fair, but didn’t quite get finished in time. I decoupaged scrapbook paper on an {icky} piece of plywood in a sort of quilt-block pattern, and added a Christmas printable (found on the beautiful Dear Lillie blog) on the front. After the Christmas season is over, I can easily remove it and switch it out for a different piece of art.

skates

Some orphan socks and silk roses stuffed into an old pair of children’s skates brightened them right up. (They are by far my favourite winter decor item!).

Fresh cut greenery, bits of burlap and red ribbon added to normal everyday decor made it look more “festivey” {I think I just made up a new word…}.

A silver tray with a lantern is a place for us to “park” our keys. My family is lost without a place for keys…

Now, I’d better get moving to the other areas of the house…

Christmas is coming {soon!!}!
