The Hunt for Dining Room Curtains

The other day I showed you some of my Dining Room inspiration pictures.  As I studied and studied them, I realized that I wanted to first start by layering in some curtains.

One of my blog friends (I can’t remember who) mentioned that in white rooms, it is important to get curtains that filter the light nicely.  It gives the room a “soft glow” rather than being a “cold” feeling.

That is what I wanted.  And I’ll be honest here.  After I went through all that work of painting THREE coats of paint on those walls, I stood back…

and wasn’t sure if I liked it!!!  Oh, I hate it when that happens!

But rather than run crying {don’t worry, I wasn’t really even close to crying!} to the paint store, I decided to just keep pressing on and give my new Mountain Peak White a chance…

So, hunting for curtains I went.

I like to peruse purchases as if “the sky were the limit”  (i.e. If I had an unlimited budget!).  That helps give me an idea of what I’m really looking for.

Of course I first went to my very favourite place ~ The Pottery Barn website.  I found some curtains that I thought would work nicely…

{All pictures from Pottery Barn}

linen drapes

Linen Drapes with a little stripe.  Oh…I love linen {in housewares…not in clothes!}…  I need them 84” long, so they would be…$78.18 each (times 4 panels equals $312.72)

striped drapes

I like that stripe…Hmm…that would be fun to work with.  Price? : $131.18 each…equalling $524.72. {Wowzers!}

cotton button drapes

And these Cotton Button Drapes also look mighty fine…They are a bargain (comparatively speaking!) at $66.17 each, totalling $264.68.

Now, please don’t misunderstand me.  You know what your budget is, and if you can and want to, I think you should get any of the above curtains!  In fact, if you click on their description, you can hop right on over to Pottery Barn and order yourself some.  I would be totally excited for you…

However, none of the above are in my budget…

It made me realize, though, that at least I have “champagne taste”!…. {“on a beer budget” as the saying goes!  tee hee}

***

While my husband and I were on our little getaway to Victoria, he graciously let me shop to my heart’s content for curtains.  I went to every nook and cranny that I could think of…  (Bless his little heart!)

I ended up with not exactly what I had in mind…but I think they’re going to work.  I do love how they do that “filter the light” thing and make the room feel “softer”.

softened summer curtains

The downside?  They are going to be absolutely no help in shutting out the cold breeze that whistles through those {beautiful, single-paned} old windows in the winter!

…But the price was right…

For $6.00 each at Jysk, they can be my “Summer Curtains”!Smile
