Front Door Makeover with Schlage ~ and a Giveaway for You

The entrance to our home got a fresh and inviting new look with a front door makeover with Schlage door handles. Read how we did it and enter a giveaway to win some for yourself!

Now that the weather has turned sunny and warm, my husband and I like to go for evening walks.

We stroll around the neighborhood and love to take note of all the pretty landscape and houses.

I especially love to look at the colors of front doors.

There is one that always stops my in my tracks, and I love to stare at it. (Is that weird?) It’s a stunning blue color against a background of dark gray siding.

But our front door?

Its color can’t be changed. (boo hoo)

We live in a townhouse complex with strata rules, and one of them is that all the front doors must  be the same color.

It makes sense in the big scheme of things, but when you want to spiff things up a bit, it becomes difficult.

I’ll admit, I haven’t given our doors much any love or attention since moving in nearly 2 years ago. It was a long overdue project to make it feel more welcoming and inviting.

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Schlage Canada.

Here’s how we gave our exterior doors a makeover:

1. Painted the insides of the doors.

Although the rules state we can’t paint the outside of the doors, the insides were free game. Since the main living space is one big room, the front and back doors are definitely part of the overall decor of the room.

The “back door” (off the kitchen) can also be viewed from the living and dining room.

After researching how to paint metal doors with plastic trim, I primed the doors and trim, and painted them a dark charcoal color by Benjamin Moore called Raccoon Fur. (A detailed tutorial will be coming later this week).

It made an instant impact and improvement to the whole space.

2. Added new door handles.

Door hardware is to your house what jewelry is to an outfit. It’s the finishing touch and sparkle that puts a whole look together.

For this project, I partnered together with Schlage Canada when choosing new door handles. All of their products are certified by the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA). It aims to provide builders and homeowners with top security grade products. Known for creating stylish hardware that lasts, all products are backed by our over 95-year history and carry a limited lifetime mechanical and finish warranty.

After looking through the Schlage website at many beautiful door handle options, I chose to go with an aged bronze finish. I thought it would go perfectly with the Modern Farmhouse style that I’m working towards ~ and also look stunning against the white background of the door.

For the front door, I chose the Addison Single Cylinder Handleset with Century trim and Georgian Knob.

It came with detailed directions, and I’ll admit, my husband read them and did all the work. I took the pictures.;)

It had all the pieces and instructions, and we just followed them step by step.

For the back door, I chose the Schlage Touch Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt with Camelot trim with the Camelot Handleset..

I thought that would come in mighty handy if any of us ever forgets our key again. (My teenage son had to crawl into his upstairs window one day when he forgot his!!)

We are loving this handy dandy touchscreen so much that we find ourselves walking around the house just to use it!;)

3. Add interest with decor and plants.

I always say that one of the fun parts of home decorating is distracting a person’s eye away from areas that aren’t so pleasing!

To be honest, this front door wouldn’t be my first pick. However, once a fun hello mat is laid down, a wreath hung is on the door, and a few planters with greenery and color are layered next to it ~ it looks amazing!!

I must say this sad looking door…

has come a long way!!

Now, here’s where the story gets really exciting!!

Know how you feel about being unable to make door/style/color choices, we lived in townhouse for 9 yrs.in San Diego area long time ago. We moved away to 20 acres in MT in May 1992. The dumbest thing we did was move away, still miss M/t. Western CO is ok but it’s not M/t. We lived in western KY for 5 yrs. after M/t then here. Of all places we’ve lived still love M/t best.
