Sliding Barn Door in Office

Ever since we moved into this house, we’ve been perplexed by this strange closet.  Although it has one door on the left, it has a big, gaping hole on the right ~ and it’s all the same closet!

I hung a curtain up there to hide the mess, but we’ve been trying to find a better solution for years.  I was always drawn to the sliding barn door idea, but my husband was sceptical until I showed him The Handmade Home’s great tutorial.  Finally, it seemed do-able.

Really, other than voicing my enthusiasm over the possibilities and painting it when it was finished, I had very little to do with this project…

and my husband did all the hard work!  I’ll give you all the specific details tomorrow, but for now, here it is!

Isn’t it awesome??

AND, not only does it cover the closet door cavity, it can slide all the way over and cover the door to the living room ~ eliminating a need for a door that would slam into the buffet!

Isn’t that just nifty??

If you were here, I’d even let you slide it yourself…

I’m now on the hunt for the perfect handle.

I refuse to pay $100 for one…
