My “Thursday House”

Remember a  long time ago I told you about helping my friend with her basement?  Well, actually, I’ve been going over to her house every Thursday possible {when both of our schedules allow} since.  It’s definitely  a highlight of my week.  We work and laugh and take think  coffee breaks.  I call it my “Thursday House”.  So far, we’ve worked in an office, the Kitchen, the Laundry Room/Pantry, the Dining Room, the Living Room, and a Guest Room.

Yesterday was the Outdoor Entertaining Gazebo and garage. The sun even came out a bit, and we had an absolutely delightful day.

Here it was before:

We  moved and  rearranged till things  felt “right” and had a practical flow.

The back part of the picture is the outdoor “kitchen” area.  It has a barbecue, sink, and (now) a long run of table to lay out a big buffet when entertaining a lot of guests.  The other part we called the outdoor “living room”.

At the far end there is a very practical, handy large picnic table.  Here it was before…

And after:

Extra chairs are stacked close by in the garage so they can be quickly pulled out for extra guests.  This spacious area will easily accommodate 20 plus people lickety split!

Adding  greenery, flowers, and splashes of red and yellow injected color and life…

hens and chicks

This basket of hens and chicks was my favourite accessory…

My friend loved the shelf filled with buckets of fresh-cut rhododendrons:

And this sunny yellow cart beside the barbecue is both pretty and practical…

The decor on top can be quickly removed to give some added “counter” space when barbecuing for a big group.

Now she’s all ready for a big ol’ family get together…

We just need the sun to keep shining for a bit longer!

{That bird is actually a watering can…Isn’t it just the cutest??}

  1. This is absolutely beautiful. The biggest problem I have with my screen porch is the pollen. How does your friend deal with this?

  2. You are doing a great job helping your friend. She has a great entertaining space and it looks like it will function even better now. My sister is my first ‘client’. I organize and paint etc. for her.
