A Shabby Glam Footstool Makeover
I love old treasures. I’m a sucker for things that have a sense of history and seem to tell a story. My friends know how I feel about things like that, and this little beauty was passed on to me by a special friend.
I thought that although is was old and worn and dirty and stained, there was something so charming about it.
It just needed a little love and an extreme makeover!
I turned it over and started dismantling it.
After removing about a katillion staples and the plastic-like upholstery, I discovered a well-built padded stool base. I traced around it on to its new fabric ( white linen cut off the bottom of my new Ikea curtains for the office…)
I cut it 1 inch bigger for seam allowance. I also cut a band that would be sewn around for the sides. I’m no upholsterer, so I really can’t give you a tutorial with confidence. Honestly, I was winging it and praying lots… I sewed the band around the top and by some miracle, it fit the first time!
Once sewn together, I clipped the edges, turned it right side out, slipped it on, folded it underneath, and stapled it down.
The legs got a new coat of shiny gold paint…And here she is in all her shabby glam glory:
I’ve never used upholstery tacks before, and found they’re a simple way to add a extra pretty finishing touch.
I have the perfect little spot for it up in my closet project…
…Someday I may even get it finished!;)
