Grateful

Day 14

Here in Canada, today is Thanksgiving.

I’ve just had a wonderful 3 day break from the camp kitchen, and I’m beyond grateful that I’ve been able to spend some time at home.

Ahh…home.

How I’ve missed you.

Truth is, I don’t spend much time here these days.  By the time I drag my weary self home from a day of cooking, I really don’t have much energy to do “home” things.

The house is still decked out in all its summer decor.  Perhaps I’ll just say I’m getting a head start on next year??:)

I’m headed up to the kitchen in a few hours to start cooking again.  A group of 85 arrives tomorrow.  It will be the largest group I’ve cooked for so far, so I need to get some prep work done.  I’m starting with making  chili.  {Wish me luck??}

But, before I go, I’ve been reflecting quite a bit on things that I’m thankful for.  Here’s the short list:

  • Health : Anyone who knows me well knows that physical strength isn’t my forte.  The fact that I’m still standing and moving at this point in this cooking journey is nothing short of a miracle.  I don’t want to take that for granted.  Oh, how grateful that “when I am weak, He is strong”.  I like to say “every meal is a miracle”…and I mean it.  Me and Jesus in the kitchen…
  • Joy:  I’ve been praying every day that I will have joy as I do this job.  And, I’m happy to report, I am really enjoying many, many aspects of it.  That’s a miracle, too!:)
  • Support:  I’m beyond grateful for the many hands who help me get meals on the table.  And not only the extra hands that help me, but those who help  as I plan and plot and make big and little decisions.  There are a LOT of decisions that have to be made in a short amount of time!

I guess that’s all the reflecting I have time for now.  It’s time for me to put up my hair and get on my “sensible” (and terribly uncomfortable!) shoes and get to work.

I must confess, I sit down and write a whole bunch of blog posts when I have some time off.  The past 13 posts I wrote in one day…  And the next 6 I wrote 2 days ago.  They are a summary of my latest adventures (and some recipes) in the kitchen.

Tomorrow will be the Beef Stroganaff Saga!:)

  1. Happy Thanksgiving!! I also try to do several blog posts at once. Helps a lot. I LOVE your wall décor and the “I will be grateful for this day”. Is that an old window or what??? I love it!! You have a wonderful day off and will check out the Beef Stroganoff tomorrow!

  2. Get yourself some COMFORTABLE sensible shoes! You will feel much better at the end of the day, and also throughout it!

  3. I agree with the above comment….COMFORTABLE SHOES ARE KEY!!! Spend the money and get ones that feel like pillows for your feet. There was never a better reason to spend money on shoes…you are wearing those things for hours at a time, and cooks never get to sit down! It will be money well-spent…you will not be sorry 🙂

    1. Ha ha, Jill and Elaine,
      Thanks so much for your concern about my feet and shoes. I totally agree that I need to have good shoes. So, I got myself a pair of Danskos. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them, so I was trying to be a “good girl” and bought a pair. So far, they are just KILLING my feet!! {I’m thinking now that all Danskos are not created equal…}
