What I Wore ~ Fashion Over 40

I’ve been going through an I’m-just-not-that-into-you stage with dresses for quite some time, now.  I don’t own many, cause I just don’t wear them that often!

I’ve been inspired, though, by seeing how creative ladies are in transforming their summer dresses into winter outfits.

I had some time today to experiment with a dress I’ve never even worn before!  I thought it was so cute and comfy when I bought it, but every time I put it on, it just sort of feels like a sack!

So, I set out to see if perhaps I could put together some outfits that felt a little more put together.  I started by layering a long-sleeved black t-shirt underneath, tights, and black boots.

Then, by adding different accessories, I found 3 totally different outfits.

Option #1 : Thin belt, puffer vest and statement necklace.

Option #2: Gray sweater, thin belt and pink scarf

Option #3: Boyfriend cardigan, thin belt, and red scarf.

What about you?  Do you style your summer dresses to wear in the winter?

  1. First of all, I love all your reinventions! They make you look slim and so put together!
I have stayed away from dresses b/c my top was like a size 14 and my bottoms are like a 10. So very hard to find anything that fit properly. I have narrow shoulders and had a fuller bust so a shift style dress would always have this wide gap at the neckline. But since menopause my bust has shrunk and I’m finally game to try some dresses this spring. I’ve learned to wear summer tops with sweaters in the winter. That came out of the hot flash season in my life, which is pretty much over now. But you have inspired me to try some dresses come summer and hopefully they’ll work for me even in the winter.
I have learned a lot from your fashion photos. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I got interested slowly in this endeavor of yours but have to say I love it! I love that you take what you have and put the great finishing touches to the outfits. I especially love what you did with this little dress. Your ideas suit me so well! You make looking put together and sophisticated so doable!!!

  3. Well done!! You really are rocking all of the looks. Makes me think that I should have another look at what’s in my closet thanks for the inspiration 🙂
