A Little Dining Room Tour

Today was the first day since I arrived home from Montana that I had the option of staying home absolutely all day…  (Not that I did…but…)  It was decadent!

I’ve been pondering from time to time my next project – The Dining Room…  Since it is all quiet around here, I thought I’d give you a little tour.

First of all…let me take you WAAAAY back to when we first moved into the house… (Judging from the mess and boxes, these picures look like they were taken very close to moving day!)

And here it is now…

I don’t want this post to go on forever, so today, I’ll just tell you the things I love about this room

~  It oozes history!  This is the only room in the house that has the original 1920’s trim.  It’s beat up and rough…but somehow, that just adds to the charm.  I also love the old paned windows.

~The furniture in it holds great sentimental value.   The buffet “lived” in the Dining Room where I grew up and the table was bought by my Mom and Dad when they were first married.

My mom asked me if I wanted her to refinish the buffet before we brought it here years ago, but I declined.  I love it just the way it is …complete with a water mark “ring”  (probably from a vase?) in the right hand corner.  That’s how I remember it always being, and I love the memories it brings.

~The light.  We bought it years ago (from Home Depot) and I still love it.

~That old brick chimney sticking out.  I think it looks all rustic and cool…

But I guess the most important reason I love this room is for how it works in a practical sense.  It’s so nice to have a place to sit down and eat when we have guests.  That table has 3 more leaves, so we can fit in quite a few people when we need to!

Tomorrow I’ll be back to tell you my ponderings regarding some changes…
