From Black to White – A Dresser Makeover

We have an odd little corner in our kitchen.  I ended up putting an old dresser in it that I’d painted Black Bean Soup, and it became our “kitchen office”.  Our phone is hooked up there, and it has become a hard-working corner.

After we finished painting the walls, the black dresser just didn’t look so good anymore.

So…I got out the whitest white paint I had in my stash and started painting.  I’ve never painted anything from black to white before, and after the first coat I was a little scared…If you try this on your own (and you should!), do NOT be afraid.  After 2 more coats, the black was completely covered.

And here it is after 3 coats of  Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White and some distressing with the random orbital sander…(Ooooh…That part is so fun!)

Ahh…I love white! (And all those accessories are not staying.  I stole them from all over the house for this picture!Smile)

  1. I can't believe you brought yourself to COVER black bean soup!! Haha, I've been thinking of painting the dresser in my room that color actually, because I loved how this one looked. You sure have a flair for decorating Rita!

  2. It looks beautiful in white. What a nice piece of furniture. the leg details seem to pop out so much more with the white.

  3. I love black furniture, but that piece really suits the white. I love BM Cloud White too.

  4. it turned out great! such a cute piece, and I'm really liking the wood knobs on the white. I am curious where you are on the W. Coast?? My dad grew up in Montana and is now a West coast transplant as well. 🙂
