Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshop

For years I’ve had a secret dream of attending an Annie Sloan chalk painting workshop. I’d look at the pictures online of smiling ladies in beautiful locations surrounded by paint and brushes and projects and aprons…

and sigh and wish I could be one of them.

But, alas, the workshops were held in places like Pennsylvania and Tennesee – both of which are a wee bit far from my British Columbia home.

In fact, I’d never even laid eyes on actual Annie Sloan chalk paint.

So, you can imagine my elation when a friend contacted me and asked if I’d attend one with her~in a city only 4 hours away.

I couldn’t dial the phone fast enough!

It was held in a breathtakingly beautiful little shop in Victoria, BC called a French Touch Furniture.

The instructor, Debra, was the owner of the shop as well as the artist behind all the painted furniture in the shop.

6 of us sat around her workshop table for nearly 5 1/2 hours and painted and chatted and experimented and were amazed.

Although I was impressed by the amazing paint and brushes (yes, Annie Sloan is definitely the “Cadillac” of chalk paint in my books!), I was struck over and over again as to what a privilege it was to be taught by someone who knew the craft so well.

As someone who has dabbled in lots of painting projects over the years, I came away having learned so much more.

It also sparked in me that little creative bug that motivated me to pull out all my paints and brushes and hunks of wood again…

I want to put what I’ve learned into practice!

It goes without saying that I highly recommend this workshop – particularly if you are interested in the craft of chalk painting. Annie Sloan is the inventor of chalk paint, and as the original type from England, it’s quite an investment. I’ve tried a few different “knock-off” brands on my own, but I can’t tell you what a difference it made to have someone explain how to use chalk paint properly. The waxing instruction was especially helpful for me. If you are interested in one of Debbie’s workshops, check out her website here.

*Disclosure: I was not paid in any way, shape, or form to promote this workshop or business…I just wholeheartedly loved it and think you should rush right there!!;)
