How to Make DIY Flower Arrangements from Grocery Store Flowers

I read recently that one of the best things you can do for your home is buy a fresh flower arrangement each week.  Although I love the concept, I find it isn’t always the best idea for the budget!:)  I do however, like to peruse  the fresh flower section of the grocery store just to see if they have any great bargains on pretty little flowers…

So, I was thrilled beyond words when I walked into the house the day before Valentine’s Day to discover this on my kitchen table:

As I started to arrange the flowers, I wasn’t sure where I was going to put such a LARGE bouquet.  Then, it hit me!  I could finally have fresh flowers in every room of the house!:)

Tips for Simple Floral Arrangments

1. Determine what color of flowers you want to use.

I carefully separated the flowers based on color and type, and determined which colors worked best in the different rooms of our home.

Here’s how 1 bouquet became 6!:

2. Choose vessels that compliment the flowers and the room you want to put them in.

The white flowers all went into some pretty painted jars and nestled into a wooden tray with some pink pompom garland.

The casual feel of the painted mason jars seemed to match perfectly with white frilly flowers.

3. Use flower vases with narrow openings for just a few flowers.

The pink carnations went into a tall painted jar and is a pretty contrast to the blue wall in the main bathroom.

4. Greenery can be used as a compliment for the flowers or on its own.

There was a whole bunch of beautiful greenery, so some of it was put into a pitcher and sits on a kitchen shelf.

5. Large flowers can be arranged alone for a dramatic statement.

This pretty lilly greets you as you walk through the door and sits on the entryway dresser.

6. Look for unique vessels to use as flower vases.

Keep your eye open at thrift stores and garage sales for vintage pitchers and bowls that could be used as flower vases.

7. Tuck small flower arrangments into bookshelf decor and elevate it by placing it on a stack of books.

And last (but not least!) this little  vase of red carnations is perched on a stack of old books in the living room:
