Updates from My Camera Lens
Hi friends!
Oh, how I miss spending time with you. It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that I wrote that I was finished cooking for the camp.
Alas, my time of refreshment was short-lived ~ two weeks to be exact.
Then…back in the camp kitchen I was needed…
My days are crazy busy and time and energy for blogging seems non-existent.
Summer camps are in full swing here now, so the numbers we’re cooking for are around 170-220 a meal.
The first week scared the liver out of me. But, we seem to have figured out a bit of a rhythm to our days that doesn’t seem quite as stressful. I’ve had amazing helpers, and a friend who graciously comes to cook so I can have a day off each week. (Bless her heart!)
It’s hard to know where to go with this little blog of mine. I really like to focus on home decor projects on a budget, but, obviously, there isn’t time for any of that these days. So, I thought I’d just share some updates of our days around here, and perhaps I’ll start a “photo of the day” series from the camp kitchen. That might be kinda fun. We’ll see…
I just spent some time transferring pictures to the computer that have been sitting in my camera. Here’s some of what I found:
Our camp celebrated its 70th anniversary on June 22. The other staff wives worked so hard putting all the details together ~ from the decorations to the special programs.
It was during that time that I had some time off from kitchen duties, so I enjoyed visiting and catching up with lots of people.
It was so fun to have families come with their kids, who were just “kids” themselves when we first met them!
On one of those anniversary celebration days, Quadra Island had its annual garden and quilt tour happening. My friend Sue’s beautiful yard and garden was featured in that tour…
I have a whole post’s worth of pictures of that, so stay tuned for more…
And, for a few weeks we had ALL our boys home at the same time. About 1/2 hour before our oldest left to go back to Alberta, we decided to try to get a family picture.
There was lots of laughing involved.
And sighing.
And ice cream cones.
But, in the end, we got a picture of all of us in the same place at the same time…
Hope you’re having a grand summer!
Thanks for sharing your life, Rita, as busy as it is. You are indeed blessed that your camp is still running with such good numbers. Church camps here in Ontario have seen a decrease in numbers over the last several years. Some on the verge of closing.
The dining hall certainly takes advantage of the nature around it by those beautiful tall windows. It’s wonderfully bright. A few camp dining halls I’ve been in have been windowless, almost institutional, or dark with old panelled walls.
While we miss your decor posts, we can appreciate how you’re spending your days. It will be September before we know it!
