Jersey Knit Headband with Flower

June 26, 2012

Things are heating up for the upcoming camp season here.  The first campers will be arriving in  less than a week!  I’ve been spending some time getting the craft shop all organized and stocked for the many kids and adults that are coming our way.

I thought maybe you’d like to see some of the craft ideas we’re using this year.  And if you’re coming as one of our campers (yeah!), you can act surprised when you see them…Winking smile

All the ideas that I’ll be sharing in the next few days can be easily adapted for different age groups.  They are also quite economical ideas if you’re planning a group craft event, or if you just want to do something crafty with your kids.

I’ll also point out that these crafts are all Pinterest & blog inspired. {Thank you!}.  I’ll be linking up the tutorials that I used, so you can learn directly from the resources that taught me!

Today’s (and tomorrow’s) craft requires jersey knit fabric.  I first started out using old t-shirts – which works great!  I was contemplating doing a “t-shirt drive” and dying them some fun colors.  But, an easier option came my way.  Look at what I scored at our local thrift store…

It was a miraculous, I’ll tell you what…

Here’s what we’re making today:

headband ps

I found the excellent tutorial for this 5-strand braided headband over here at http://www.makeit-loveit.com.  For the life of me, I can’t find the flower tutorial I used, but a similar one is here.  Mine is a bit simpler, though.  I just stacked up all the circles, sewed a big x in the center, pulled it tight and watched it ruffle.  Easy peasy! I did strategically add some hot glue on to the petals to make a few more ruffles.

I don’t know that this headband is my kind of fashion statement…

But, I do think it’s rather cute…and would be absolutely darling for little girls…
