Front Door Makeover

I’ve always found my front door entrance a bit difficult to decorate.  It’s a bit kittywompus {and that silly wreath keeps poking me in the eye!}.

The door isn’t centered in the space, so there isn’t enough room to put a planter on each side.  One planter on the right looks a bit empty.  And, as you can see, it had become a “storage area” for all my planters!

After a little paint and  rearranging of all things plant-like in pots, this is what it now looks like:

I’ve loved the idea of having the house number painted on the door since I first saw in online last year.  Some people use vinyl numbers (great idea!), but I did it old school and painted it with a brush.  {Just like I paint my signs.}

Honesty, painting at that angle was a bit tricky…

I also needed to find something to fill in the area to the right of the door.  I decided to drag out the old plant stand of my mom’s that I brought from Montana.  I’ve wanted to use it ever since, but couldn’t quite figure out what to do with it…

I gave it a quick coat of Burnished Bronze spray paint, which instantly spiffed it up.  By this point, however, I had run out of both (a.) pretty planter containers and (b.) pretty plants.  So I grabbed some empty plastic pots left over from previous plantings and dug up some ferns that were in the way.  I honestly have no idea how they’ll grow in planters, but, for now, they add a nice pop of greenery.

I’m talking sweetly to those plants, watering them regularly, and praying that they will grow and give a riot of happy color in that corner.  Time will tell…

  1. OH how pretty! Your front door looks very nice! And I love the ferns!! I’ve potted up wild ferns in the past and they did great as long as I kept them in similar growing conditions (i.e. shaded.) All in all I love what you have done with your entry way. It is very peaceful and inviting!! Have a great day!

  2. What a great transformation! I love the number on the door. I also have a question for you. I notice you have a new area at the top of the blog that has roll over photos of your recent posts. How did you make the photos rollover?
