The Blogging Blues…

In the year and a bit that I’ve been blogging, I’ve read a few posts written by fellow bloggers describing some of the more challenging aspects of blogging.  I’ve always found it encouraging, and think of them the odd time when I start to feel overwhelmed and “small” in this big  world of blogging.

Seasoned bloggers have given such good advice.  Wise words like:

  • Just be yourself.
  • Don’t fixate on the stats and numbers.
  • Blog because you love to blog, not because you see it as an “easy” way to make money.
  • If you do decide to blog for money, realize it is plain, hard work!

For the most part, I’ve just blogged away because I truly do love it.  I found the statistics fascinating, and rejoiced when the numbers went up, but  really tried not to fixate on them.  I’m not- after all – doing this for money, but have toyed with the idea for the future.

So, where am I going with this??

It was a month ago (on Friday) that I switched my Blogger blog to WordPress.  I feel like I’m starting to get into the swing of my new blog home.

But there is one thing that does sort of break my heart.

sad baby

{Image found on Google.  I can’t find the original source, nor can I look at it without laughing!}

The fact is, somehow in the process of the switch, I lost viewers. Not just a few … but thousands!

I honestly don’t know what went wrong.

question

I probably didn’t link up some code correctly or something…

In many ways, it feels like I’m starting over.

start over

It’s a bit of a bummer.  But, honestly, I don’t want to dwell on it.

So…What am I doing about it?

what's next

Here’s my strategy:

  1. I’m not heading over to my Google Analytics site very often at this point!:)

2.  I’m trying to focus on why I blog in the first place…

  • I do still love it.
  • I do still just want to be myself!
  • I do still love being inspired by fellow bloggers…
  • I do still want to encourage others

~and ~

3.  I’d like to ask you for some feedback…

your opinion

                                                                                                                                                              {via}

Do you find my new blog easy to navigate?  Are there any features you miss? {I have added a “You May Also Like” widget, but it is currently having technical difficulties!}  Do you find the design welcoming or cold and sterile?

Thank you in advance for offering your opinions.

I do want to learn and grow in this whole blogging thing.

And, if you are like me right now and feeling a little “blue” about blogging.  I’m hanging on to some other “seasoned advice” ~  “They” say to press on…

It gets better!Smile

  1. i stumbled across your blog a few months ago and just wanted to let you know how much i LOVE it! you have inspired me to get crafty and creative, and i check back almost daily for new inspiring posts. congratulations on the opening of your shop!!

  2. I too am fairly new to your blog and have followed you into wordpress…I am glad for the link to facebook, otherwise I would find it hard to follow. I like going to my blogger site and just scrolling down thru the blogs I read so that is the only thing different for me. But facebook is a daily thing for me so it is easy to keep connected.

    1. When you say you go to your “blogger site and scroll down thru the blogs”, do you mean Google Friend connect, or your personal blog roll? I’m trying to figure out how people most often find their favorite blogs… (Some people use things like Google reader, too…) Thanks for the Facebook connection. Have a great day, and thanks for reading!:)

  3. You got a good thing going…it will grow again. Your authentic joy and common sense, along with your knack for beauty and photography, are what makes this blog successful. You will be found again, I am sure of that. Besides, you’re on Pinterest…isn’t that the penultimate?? Keep learning but fix your eyes on Truth. And I’ll just preach that to myself today too. Hugs.

    P.S. Come see me!!

  4. Aw, I’m so sorry!! That really stinks!!! I lost almost 300 followers according to my feedburner numbers which coincidentally was about the same as my GFC followers, so it seems that for some reason they stopped counting them, though it appears they are still getting my feed in Google reader.
Very odd, but yeah. I did have to just shrug and say oh well. Not happy but can’t fix it now. Hopefully we’ll both grow quickly back to where we were! 🙂

  5. As a new follower through Linky, I can’t really comment on your old blog format. But I can tell you that I really like your blog the way it is – I think it encapsulates the Harbour Breeze feeling with the cool colours and fonts.

Interesting post for me because I’m thinking about changing over to wordpress also. But now that I’ve read this, I think I’ll wait a bit longer. I’m not nearly as big as you with follower numbers and I really don’t want to lose anyone (now that I’m growing).

  6. I love your blog! I don’t become a follower of any blog but save them as a favorite instead and then just check my favorite blogs a few times a week. So I guess oh could say that I am stalking you :). I like your new format and honestly I wouldn’t change a thing.

  7. Ritajoy,
I think your new blog via WordPress looks great! I find it easy to navigate and everything is very viable. I’ve thought about switching to WordPress, but I’m scared to death of doing it. I wish I could get together with someone like yourself to give me the step by step instructions. I love reading your blog and encourage you to keep up the good work. Hope you will continue to read my blog as well.
