How to Coffee-Dye Fabric {Day 19}
When my friend Coleen and I found all those great bargains last month, I picked up 5 packages of these.
Yep. 5 {packages of 4}!! Did I mention they were…like…90% off?? (Oh, I love a good sale!)
I was intrigued at first by the name “flour sack”. I’ve seen all kinds of things made out of “grain sack” material, so I thought “flour” might be kind of interesting, too. I figured, also, for that price, I could use them to dry my dishes…since that is, in fact, the intended use for them!
I wanted to try doing a sewing project with them. However, I thought the white was a little too white. So I dyed them with coffee using the simple instructions I found here. It worked like a charm. The only difference was, I used my dreadfully old and out of date instant coffee I had in the back of the pantry. I couldn’t quite bear to waste my hazelnut coffee beans on fabric!
The dying process doesn’t make a huge dramatic difference, but just makes it a little “creamier” in color:

I would not have thought of this. But the dyed fabric definitely looks warmer and more appealing to me. Can't wait to see what you do with it. 🙂
