Driftwood Signs

My sister-in-law and her family just left this morning.  We’ve had 5 days together – chatting, drinking coffee, watching movies, cooking, going out for dinner – Oh, so fun!  Now it’s time to get back to “normal” …but the house seems eerily quiet…

One afternoon we braved the iffy weather and headed to the beach.  It turned out to be a wonderful time.  The rain held off and the sun even started to peek out.  As we wandered around, I started to look at the piles of driftwood in a new light.  “Hmm…”, I said, thinking aloud, “I think people make signs out of driftwood…”.  Before I knew it, both families were finding all kinds of “treasures” to turn into art.

My 13 year-old niece is a passionate crafter.   She jumped onto the driftwood sign bandwagon and we decided to try it out together.  We researched sayings and styles online (goodness, there are a lot of ideas!).

I had to laugh at one point thinking that this was a new experience for me.  None of my boys have ever wanted to do crafts with me!…

The basic process was the same as the office sign and bathroom art that I wrote about previously.  Cara’s “How Great is Our God” saying was outlined first in sharpie marker and then filled in with paint.  I think she did an amazing job, considering my sharpie markers are about as old as Methuselah!  If they had been newer, I think it all could have been done with the marker.

I hung the “Welcome” sign over our door in the entrance.
