Decisions and a Rainy Day Recipe

We have recently made some changes to our “Powder Room”:
  • We painted the window and put on new window trim. (LOVE IT!)
  • I made a curtain and sort of a “sink skirt” to hide the pipes. The curtain I like. The sink skirt…NOT SO MUCH!! It falls off every morning after everyone finishes showering. Sticking that thing up again has become part of my morning routine. It’s not working so well for me….tee hee!
  • We installed a new light fixture to replace the old flourescent one. I love the new fixture and the new light that is in the room. However, taking out those flourescent tubes completely changed the paint color! Now instead of a blue-gray color it is…baby blue. Ewww…that’s not working for me either.

So, now it is decision making time. We found out that we need to install a new subfloor before we put in new flooring. Oh boy. Once things like that start happening, the decision-making pressure becomes more intense. Even though it is only 18 square feet to work with…choosing the flooring is hard! And now I’m wondering about a new wall color, too. And perhaps some beadboard?? Oh, dear. I now need to walk away from the project and do some research…

On another note…It is sort of a gray day here on the coast. A perfect day for soup and biscuits. I thought I’d share with you my favorite biscuit recipe. It’s so easy, and my boys just love it.

Biscuits (I double this recipe for my family.)

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup real butter, softened a little
  • 2/3 cup milk

In a bowl stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center; add milk all at once. Stir just till dough clings together.

On a lightly floured surface, knead dough gently for 10 to 12 strokes. Roll dough to 1″ thickness. Cut with a biscuit cutter. Transfer biscuits to a baking sheet. Bake in a 45o degree oven for 10-12 minutes or till golden.

(We like ours served with a little syrup over the top. Yum!)
